October 11th, 2014

he days are moving toward night ever more quickly as the Autumn chill descends. Time for the Rusty Oranges and Chimney Reds of seasonal blossoms to appear. We have just launched our Autumn Collection of flowers and are designing some Halloween bouquets too. There is a competition running on our Facebook page to find the Scariest Bunch, so if you can think of something scarier than a creaky gate, get over there! We will be giving away mini-pumpkins with our Halloween bouquet again this year. They are ideal for novelty pumpkin carving.

Here are our tips for making your own pumpkin carving at home:

For the Pumpkin arrangement

  1. Carefully slice off the top of the pumpkin with a sharp knife to create a lid
  2. Scoop out the seeds within and discard (or dry out and use in soups or for baking yummy)
  3. Cut a piece of pre-soaked floral oasis and fill the pumpkin cavity
  4. Place freshly cut stems of seasonal flowers and foliage evenly in the oasis until there are no gaps. This is where the kids can root around for scary twigs and berries and even conkers!
  5. Top up with water occasionally to ensure the oasis remains damp
  6. NB do not leave on polished surfaces

For the Pumpkin carving simply:

  1. Draw the required design on the pumpkin with a biro
  2. Carefully slice off the top of the pumpkin with a sharp knife to create a lid
  3. Scoop out the seeds within and discard
  4. Cut around the biro lines with a sharp knife and carefully remove and discard the pieces
  5. NB Do not leave burning candles unattended

In our photo we have used some flowers from our Autumn Range. Red Roses, Pistache, Hypericum Berries & Carthamus.

Other flowers that would be good to use and available at this time of year are:

Dahlia

Asters

Chrysanthemums

Craspedia

Carnations

Eryngium

Solidago

We would love to see your creations – so why not check out our ‘Scary Bunch’ competition on our Facebook page and stand the chance to win a €100 voucher?!
