The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is one of our favourite floral and garden event. It was first put together by the Royal Horticultural Society and had their first show in 1862 in the RHS garden in Kensington. The event was first called ‘The Great Spring Show’ but was later changed to The Chelsea Flower Show when the event was moved to the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, in Chelsea, London in 1912. It is a five-day garden show that takes place in May every year in the Royal Hospital Chelsea in Chelsea London. This event attracts visitors from all over the world and is also attended by members of the British Royal Family.
This year, the event takes place on the 22nd of May until the 26th so we’ve decided to put together a few tips on what to expect if you are visiting this year.
Dress comfortably! We know it’s nice to dress up for a flower show, but it’s just a big event that you need almost a full day to see everything! Take note that the ground is uneven and if it rains, it will be muddy. Always check the weather before leaving your house!
Try to arrive early. Enjoy the garden before it gets busy with the crowds.
Remember, less is more. Don’t bring heavy bags with you because you will be walking around for quite a while and also, take into consideration that if you have a big bag, you might hit someone when you turn around.
Interact with the exhibitors about their plants, ask them questions because they are full of passion and love for flowers and gardens and are highly experts in what they grow.
We advise you to take notes on a small notebook or your phone. You will be fascinated with the number of flowers and plants you will see during the event, and you will want to remember it!
Visit the outdoor garden display first. This part of the garden is where it gets most of its attraction, and it is such a joyful experience to explore. The queues become very long as the day goes by which is why we advise you to hit them first!
Enjoy the event! Take in as much as you can and capture as many beautiful photos of the flowers and garden.
If you are visiting The Chelsea Flower Show this year, don’t forget to let us know because we might see you there! However, if you’re not going this, do not worry, you can always appreciate beautiful flowers from Mad Flowers.
